Chinese Proficiency Test ( Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi or HSK)

I. General Introduction to HSK
　　China's HSK is a kind of standardized test prepared for non-Chinese speakers including foreigners, overseas Chinese, and ethnic minorities in China. It is regularly sponsored at a fixed date every year in China and in some countries around the world. Those who come up to a certain standard in the test will be granted the corresponding
graded certificate.

1. Features of HSK
　　HSK Elementary and Intermediate are good for those learners who have reached elementary and intermediate levels of Chinese language proficiency, e.g., having received regular education in Modern Chinese for 400-2000 class hours. HSK Advanced holds good for those learners who have learned Chinese language regularly for 3000 class hours and reached the advanced level of proficiency.

2. HSK Test Time:
　　Elementary and Intermediate: twice each year, in June and December respectively.

3. Validity of HSK Certificate:
　 1)The HSK Certificate is good for admission into the undergraduate or graduate programs as required by Chinese　universities.
　 Grade III: Having the Chinese language ability at the elementary lower level, one can be granted an Elementary C HSK Certificate. This is the lowest requirement for an international student to enter a science, engineering, agricultural, and Western medical institution in China as stipulated by China's Ministry of Education.
　 Grade IV: Having the Chinese language ability at the elementary middle level, one can be granted an Elementary B HSK Certificate.
　 Grade V: Having the Chinese language ability at the elementary higher level, one can be granted an Elementary A HSK Certificate.
　 Grade VI: Having the Chinese language ability at the intermediate lower level, one can be granted an Intermediate C HSK Certificate. This the lowest requirement for an international student to enter a Chinese institution of literature, history, and Chinese traditional medicine as stipulated by China’s Ministry of Education.
　 2) The HSK Certificate is good for an exemption from taking Chinese language courses in Chinese universities.
　 3) The HSK Certificate is used as a qualification for an employing department to recruit Chinese language personnel.

4. Sponsoring and Issuing Organization
　　China’s State Commission of Chinese Proficiency Test is the sponsor of the HSK Test; its Office and the Center for Chinese Proficiency Test of Beijing University of Language and Culture are held responsible for the specific affairs.

II. HSK Training Course

　　Elementary and Intermediate HSK tests are held in early December every year on PSU campus. In order to help students and other Chinese learners get well prepared for the test, Confucius Institute at PSU will open a HSK training course between August and November. The course will be conducted by Chinese teachers.

We will choose the most up-to-date HSK materials and arrange some sample tests while training the fundamental knowledge of Chinese language (phonetics, vocabulary and grammar) and culture and the certain test items. Students will get acquainted with the test format and learn some related skills.
　　Duration：For each training, there are classes for 20 times with two class-hours each, including time for sample tests and analysis of the papers. The training time will be adjusted according to the request and the availability of majority of the students. It could be on weekend (Saturday or Sunday).

People both on campus and outside the campus are welcome to take our training course and we wish you a great success.
