The Stone Forest is a
massive collection of grey limestone pillars, split by rain water and eroded to
their present fanciful forms. The maze of grey peaks is like an over-sized
rockery with walkways, pavilions, pathways winding like
a labyrinth.
The rocks make many
strange formations and have such titles as 'baby elephant', 'Everlasting
Fungus', 'Moon
gazing rhino', 'Baby buffalo' and 'sword pond'.
The Stone Forest is a good 3 to 4 hour drive from Kunming. Reasonably
priced mini-buses can be found plying for
trade outside the main railway station, or there is a train service from the
railway station that can get you there in the
morning and come back later in the afternoon. |
